Security Overview

Download Demo

Application Manager is software designed for use by novice to expert software developers. The software enables users to build a fully functional application, using the components contained in the application, by just adding the forms, reports and code for your application to transform the Application Manager application for use as your application. You do not have to develop all the necessary extras that make an application work. It provides startup, flow control, security, assistance with handling errors, comprehensive data validation methods and application management capabilities. The software is designed to be intuitive and easy-to-use for even the novice software developer. It is designed for individuals to become more productive, while the Help file provides the training and walks you through the process of securing your application.

The application supplies a secure user interface, helping you to manage application integrity with data and program error handling. It provides assistance in developing an effective communication management system for applications developed with Microsoft Office, to enhance the experience for the users of your applications.

The main purposes of the application are to get you to a secure interface for your application quicker, include the components for managing your application in both the Development and Production environments and provide you with the elements to control the flow of your completed application and its user access.

Important Information for Users of Microsoft Access after version 2003:

The Application Manager Multi-User Type application, which is used as a foundation for developing your application, uses the capabilities of the Microsoft Access 2003 User-Level Security system to provide protection for the application itself and the data it contains. The User-Level Security settings are discarded if the database files are converted to the later Microsoft Access file formats (.accdb, .accde, .accdc, .accdr). The newer file formats do not include the ability to use User-Level Security.

You can start the security tools provided by Microsoft Access 2003 and earlier - the User-Level Security Wizard and the various user and group permission dialog boxes - from later versions of Microsoft Access.

Very Important: You can continue to run an application and manage User-Level Security using a later version of Microsoft Access in database files created with Microsoft Access 2003 or earlier, which use an .mdb or .ade file format.

Key Benefits of Using the Application Manager Application:

Provides the foundation and elements needed to develop a fully functional application and can be used to provide a secure user interface to protect your application's design and data.
Includes a full function Help system that provides instructions, context-sensitive help, window-level-help and additional information for error messages. In addition, the Help system covers the principals and methods of communicating with the users of applications, and provides assistance in developing an effective communication management system for your applications.
A Demo type application is provided with comprehensive instructions to help you become familiar with the application and how to use it before purchase.

Key Features of the Application Manager Application:

All necessary startup forms are included and work together to control the flow of the application startup process. Just make changes to pictures and text to adapt them for your application.

(License Agreement, Application Information, Demo, Introduction and Startup.)

The application manages certain settings and is designed to be used in either of two environments, Development or Production. The Development Environment settings are used while objects, and Visual Basic for Applications code are added to produce a software application. The Production Environment settings are used when the application is ready for distribution to control access to the application through the keyboard, and prevents displaying the Database Window so users cannot make changes to the application. The Demo type application is only distributed in the Production Environment.
While using the application in the Development environment:
VBA code in the Application Manager modules is highly commented, for easily following and learning of how to use the methods in your applications.
See how the Application Manager application provides security for its forms, reports and their data. Then add your forms and reports, customize them to function like Application Manager's, to provide security for your objects and data.
Development Tracking - Track features added to the application to inform future purchasers of your application. Track known bugs to help insure they are not forgotten and accidentally released with your distributed application.
Illustrates how to easily provide Demo, Single-User and Multi-User versions, and change between each.

Application Manager is not sold as a Single-User version since the nature of the application is to provide access to the design and source code for developers as a foundation for developing other applications.

Administrators can create and save code templates for use in other parts of applications.
Provides assistance of handling errors in your forms and code by using procedures included in the Application Manager application. (Some copying and pasting, and modifications of code is necessary, as described in the application's remarks and extensive help file.)
Provides a graphical interface for creating single purpose or flexible and reusable prompts and messages:
▪  Easily create MsgBoxes for communicating with the users of your applications.
▪  Easily create Input Boxes for getting information from the users of your applications.
Replace Microsoft Office error messages with your own to display messages that supply more meaningful information for the user.
Demonstrates using multiple record sources for many forms and reports.
By generating help files in both HTML and WinHelp, administrators can allow users to select their preferred help source.
Administrators can control the use of the MouseWheel on an individual form-by-form basis.
Provides a graphical interface for developers and Help authors to work together to connect Message Boxes to Help File Topics. By using Microsoft Office to develop your application, and a Help authoring tool to develop your custom Help file, you can provide an instant reference to additional help for the current message displayed from your application.
Print Form and Control HelpContextID property values to a text file. This file can be printed from Notepad to determine if all properties have an entry and that they are all correct.
Administrators can notified when Development Tracking issues are not finished.
Command buttons help developers accomplish their tasks easily.
Test if the application is compiled at startup.
When the application is developed and ready for production, an administrator can easily change the application's environment from Development to Production.
While using the application in the Production environment:
The application maintains control of the flow by having users only interact with the application through forms.
Ensures that users can't use keys to interrupt the flow of your application startup.
A main form serves as the central control point for the application, so users can open other specific forms or reports for which they have been assigned permission, where they can enter, view and/or modify data.
The Main and Preferences forms display varying objects, and provide different options that are specific to the users particular user group. Easily use these methods in your applications forms and reports. In other words, security permissions can be used to determine a form's appearance and behavior.
Administrators can design reports in the Development Environment and create SQL statements on-the-fly to filter records and save the report for future use.
Administrators can easily add/delete users to/from group accounts.
Users can easily change their password to the application.
Administrators can clear forgotten passwords and assign temporary passwords to allow entry to the application.
Administrators can automatically log users out to perform application or data file maintenance.
Administrators are able to prevent users from logging in during application or data file maintenance.
Creates a logon history to monitor user activity.
Administrators can clear forgotten passwords and assign temporary passwords to allow entry to the application.
Administrators can save the assigned security permissions. In the event of database corruption they can easily be restored.
Determines if the Application file and Data file are the same version to insure data integrity.
Administrators can modify messages displayed to the user to provide additional or clearer information.

(Messages stored in tables, which are intended to be flexible)

Users are given various options to customize how the application interacts with them.
Users can select an application object to automatically open at startup.
Select what color forms and objects on forms are displayed as.
Users can determine if reports use record shading for greater distinction between records and easier reading.
Command buttons help users accomplish their tasks easily.
The application determines if users have blank passwords and can optionally notify administrators.
Accompanying Help files provide assistance for Application Manager's users to get help with the application and problems that may occur:
  ▪  Includes Context-Sensitive Help for assistance with a particular object.
  ▪  Incorporates Window-Level-Help for instructions for an entire form that are specific to the users particular user group.
  ▪  Provides additional information for error messages that may occur, through accessing Help from a button displayed on the message box.
Administrators can easily regulate the number of concurrent users to limit the number of licenses.
While using the application in both environments:
Error Logging - Track where users may be having problems with your application and get them corrected, meaning the application or the users. Developers and users do not think alike. If there is a way to make your application not work the way you intended, they will always find it!
Administrators can easily add/delete users to/from group accounts.
Administrators are given various options to interact with the application.
▪  Notify when logon records exceed a desired number.
▪  Notify when logged error records exceed a desired number.
▪  Notify if the Admin user is still a member of the Admins group.
 ▪ Includes a password, Product Registration Key and Serial Number generator for use by developers and users.
 ▪ A Zoom Box is provided for viewing, entering or editing the contents of a field or control, using a larger area.

For Example: When you are viewing and working with data, sometimes a field or control will not be wide enough to display all the text, or a memo field may not be long enough to display several paragraphs of text. The Zoom Box is sizeable for displaying much more of the text, according to your screen size and resolution.
